Burnt-on pans

For caked-on, burnt or scorched pans.

  1. Try this first

    Dishwasher detergent soak

Add powdered dishwasher detergent or a tablet (such as Cascade) to boiled hot water and soak the pan overnight. It is great on Corning ware, stainless and Pyrex-type glass pans.

  2. Then try

    Dryer sheet overnight

For a casserole dish with burned-on cheese or a skillet crusted with scrambled egg, fill it with hot water, lay a dryer sheet in it and leave it overnight. The gunk should wipe right out in the morning.

Wash the pan well with dish soap and rinse it thoroughly before you cook in it again.
