Everyday spills

Gum and sticky residue on clothes

Harden it with ice, then crack it off.

  1. Try this first

    Ice, scrape, then pretreat

Apply ice to harden the sticky residue. Crack or scrape off the extra. Apply a pretreatment stain remover, rinse and wash.

Test any stain remover on a hidden seam or hem first, and check the care label.

  2. Then try

Hot white vinegar for the stuck bits

Freeze the gum (put the garment in the freezer, or hold ice on it) and peel off what you can. Soak the leftover gum in hot white vinegar and scrape it with the edge of a spoon or a credit card until it is gone.

Use something blunt. A knife or anything rough can snag the fabric.
