Easter egg dye

Easter egg dye is a dye stain, so act fast and test a hidden spot.

  1. Try this first

Red dye: ammonia soak, then vinegar soak

Soak 30 minutes in 1 quart warm water with 1/2 teaspoon dish detergent and 1 tablespoon ammonia. Rinse. Then soak 1 hour in 1 quart warm water with 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Rinse and dry.

Never mix ammonia and chlorine bleach, and rinse well between one stain remover and the next.

  2. Then try

Other colors: vinegar soak, then alcohol

Soak 30 minutes in 1 quart warm water with 1/2 teaspoon dish detergent and 1 tablespoon white vinegar, agitating now and then. Rinse and dry. Apply rubbing alcohol on an alcohol-dampened pad, changing the pad as it picks up dye.

Rubbing alcohol can take dye out of fabric. Test a hidden spot first.

  3. Then try

    A last try: bleach

If any dye is left, use chlorine bleach, but only if the fabric can take it.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
