Ink

Expect the ink to come out in stages, not all at once.

  1. Try this first

    Rubbing alcohol

Apply it and dab or blot. Keep a folded towel under the stain so the ink does not bleed through the garment.

  2. Then try

    Boosters, one at a time

Try shaving cream, white vinegar, nail polish remover, a baking soda and water paste or cheap aerosol hairspray, one at a time. See which removes the most ink and keep using that method. It will come out in several stages, not immediately.

  3. Then try

    Vodka

Apply vodka to the stain. Launder as usual.

  4. Then try

Cream of tartar and lemon juice paste

Mix 2 tablespoons cream of tartar with 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Leave the paste on the stain for 3 to 4 hours, then launder as usual.

  5. Then try

    Rubbing alcohol from the back

Sponge around the stain with rubbing alcohol first, then apply it to the stain. Place the stain face down on clean towels, apply alcohol to the back and replace the towels often. Rinse thoroughly and launder. Another way: stretch the fabric over a jar opening and drip alcohol through the stain, then rinse and launder.

Some ballpoint, felt-tip and liquid inks may never come out completely. Rubbing alcohol can take dye out of fabric. Check the care label and test a hidden spot first. Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone.
