Laundry mishaps

A pen, marker or lipstick that went through the wash or dryer

Stop, do not dry again, and clean the dryer drum before anything else goes in.

  1. Try this first

    Clean the drum first

Unplug the dryer and let it cool. Wipe the drum with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol until the marks lift, then wipe with a damp cloth and leave the door open to air out fully.

Rubbing alcohol is flammable: no flames, keep the room ventilated, and let the drum dry completely before using it.

  2. Then try

Treat the clothes before another cycle

Lay each marked spot on a clean white towel, dab with rubbing alcohol from the back, blot, then work in dish soap and wash again. Keep checking before drying: another trip through the dryer sets ink.

Test alcohol on a hidden spot first. Not for silk or acetate.
