Spills on painted walls and wallpaper

Painted walls take sudsy water. Wallpaper needs a gentler hand.

  1. Try this first

    Painted walls: warm sudsy water

Wipe up the spill right away with a cloth or sponge dampened with warm sudsy water. Rinse well and wipe dry.

Test in a hidden spot on flat or delicate paint.

  2. Then try

Wallpaper: clear warm water, no soap

Blot up the excess right away. Wipe the stain very gently with a sponge or cloth dipped in clear warm water. Do not over-wet the paper, overlap your strokes to avoid streaks, then pat dry. Do not use soap or detergent on regular, embossed, foil or grasscloth wallpaper.

Tomato products and deodorant can permanently stain wallpaper, so act at once.
