Flowerpot rings and water marks

Minerals and moisture leave the ring. Clean it, then give pots a barrier.

  1. Try this first

    On concrete or stone

Scrub the ring with a stiff brush and a mix of half white vinegar and half water. Rinse well.

Keep vinegar off natural stone such as marble or limestone.

  2. Then try

    On wood

Wipe dry, then rub gently with a cloth with a drop of dish soap. For a white ring, see White rings and cloudy marks on wood furniture. A dark ring may need light sanding and refinishing.

  3. Then try

    Prevent it

Lift pots on pot feet or saucers with a cork or felt mat under them, and empty saucers after watering.
