Grass

Grass stains can be stubborn, but there are a few easy ways to lift them.

  1. Try this first

Laundry detergent or baking soda paste

Rub a little liquid laundry detergent, or a paste of baking soda and water, into the stain. Let it sit 15 minutes and wash in the warmest water the fabric allows. Check that the stain is gone before drying, since heat sets stains.

  2. Then try

    Rubbing alcohol, then Tide

Apply rubbing alcohol and let it dry. Rinse. Rub with Tide liquid, rinse and then launder as usual.

  3. Then try

    White vinegar or Karo syrup

Rub it into the stain as a pre-treat. Wash as usual. Do not dry in the dryer until the stain is removed.

  4. Then try

    Vodka

Apply vodka to the stain, then launder as usual.

  5. Then try

Enzyme pre-treat (if the others did not work)

Pre-treat with an enzyme laundry detergent (Biz or Wisk), or make a paste with water and a digestive enzyme capsule (opened to get the powder out) from your local pharmacy or health food store. Apply the paste, let it set for an hour and wash as usual, but air dry.

  6. Then try

An enzyme product, then a safe bleach

Pretreat or soak with an enzyme product. If the stain persists, launder with chlorine bleach if the fabric allows it, or with oxygen bleach.

Check the care label and test a hidden spot first. Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone.
