Crayon on clothes

A crayon in the dryer is a bigger job than a few spots on a shirt.

  1. Try this first

A few spots: treat like candle wax

Scrape off the surface crayon with a dull knife. Place the stain between clean paper towels and press with a warm iron, replacing the towels often. Then set the stain face down on clean paper towels, sponge what is left with a pre-wash stain remover, blot and let it dry. Launder in the hottest water safe for the fabric.

Test any stain remover on a hidden seam or hem first, and check the care label.

  2. Then try

    Or bar soap

Dampen the spot, rub it with bar soap and launder in the hottest water the fabric allows.

  3. Then try

A whole load: baking soda in a hot wash

Wash the load in hot water with laundry soap and 1 cup of baking soda. If color is left, wash with chlorine bleach if the fabric allows it, or soak in an enzyme product or oxygen bleach (safe for colored fabrics).

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
