Mulberry stains on clothes, patios and cars

Mulberry juice is a dye. Treat it fresh and keep it cool.

  1. Try this first

    On clothes

Rinse from the back with cool running water and sprinkle on a little salt. Or soak the spot in white vinegar for 15 to 30 minutes, blot and repeat. Work in a little dish soap, rinse, and if a purple mark is left, soak in oxygen bleach as the label says, then wash. Check the spot before the dryer.

Test oxygen bleach on a hidden spot. It is not for silk or wool.

  2. Then try

    On concrete, pavers and cars

Scrub with warm water, dish soap and a stiff brush (a soft cloth on a car) and rinse well. Rinse off fallen berries quickly, before the sun bakes them in.

Do not pour straight bleach on concrete: it can lighten the spot in patches and leave a bigger mark.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
