Greasy kitchen cabinets and walls

Cooking grease collects dust and turns sticky. Start gentle.

  1. Try this first

    Dish soap and warm water

Add a few drops of dish soap to warm water and wipe the grease with a soapy cloth or sponge, paying extra attention to handles and edges. Rinse with clean water and dry. This is enough for light buildup.

Keep the cloth damp, not wet, on wood. Check the cabinet maker’s care instructions and test a hidden spot.

  2. Then try

    Vinegar and water

Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle, spray, let it sit a few minutes, wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry.

Do not use undiluted vinegar: it can dull finishes.

  3. Then try

Baking soda paste for a stubborn spot

Mix baking soda with a little water into a paste, rub gently with a soft cloth, wipe with a damp cloth and dry.

    Rub gently to avoid scratching.

  4. Then try

    Stop it coming back

On the tops of cabinets, spray a kitchen degreaser, let it sit about 5 minutes, wipe with microfiber and lay a piece of parchment paper on top. Next time, throw the paper away and put down a fresh one. Wipe the cabinets regularly, use a splatter screen and run the range hood.
