Perspiration

Perspiration is a sweat stain, so pretreat before washing.

  1. Try this first

    Peroxide and baking soda soak

Soak yellowed shirt underarms in equal parts hydrogen peroxide and baking soda with a little dish soap for 30 minutes. Scrub gently and wash as usual.

Test on a hidden seam first, especially on colors.

  2. Then try

    Fels Naptha

Rub a wet bar of Fels Naptha on the stain before laundering. It works on perspiration stains.

  3. Then try

    Pretreat, then the hottest wash

Pretreat with a pre-wash stain remover, or rub the area with bar soap, then launder in the hottest water safe for the fabric. If the fabric color has changed, apply ammonia to a fresh stain or white vinegar to an old one, then rinse. For a stubborn stain, wash with an enzyme product or oxygen bleach in the hottest safe water.

Never mix ammonia and chlorine bleach. Check the care label and test a hidden spot first. Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone.
