Coffee and tea stains in thermoses and water bottles

Baking soda or a salt shake lifts tannin without scratching.

  1. Try this first

    Baking soda soak

Fill the bottle with warm water and a spoonful or two of baking soda, soak for an hour, then scrub with a soft brush and rinse.

  2. Then try

    Ice and salt shake

Put a few ice cubes and 3 tablespoons of salt in the thermos, put the lid on and shake for about 3 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Skip hard scouring pads and steel wool: scratches hold more stain.

  3. Then try

Vinegar and baking soda for stubborn stains

Add white vinegar and baking soda (it will fizz) with hot water, let it sit 1 to 2 hours, then scrub and rinse well.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
