Soap scum

Soap scum is soap mixed with minerals. Wipe the shower down after use and it never builds up.

  1. Try this first

    Vinegar, water and dish soap

In a spray bottle mix equal parts white vinegar and water and about 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Spray the buildup, wait about 15 minutes, scrub with a soft brush, rinse with hot water and dry.

    Never mix vinegar with bleach.

  2. Then try

    Baking soda and vinegar paste

Mix baking soda with enough white vinegar to make a paste. When the fizzing stops, spread it on the tub and shower, leave about 15 minutes, scrub with a non-scratch sponge, rinse and dry.

  3. Then try

    A wet melamine sponge

Wet a melamine sponge (a magic eraser), squeeze it out and wipe glass doors, grout and the tub. Rinse and dry.

Do not press hard on glass or tile. A wet pumice stone is for porcelain tubs only, never acrylic.

  4. Then try

    Keep it away

Dry the shower and tub with a squeegee or towel after each use, and switch from bar soap to a liquid body wash. Soap scum is easier to prevent than to remove.
