Baby clothes and formula

The Dawn, peroxide and baking soda mix works well on any clothing stain.

  1. Try this first

Fels Naptha, or Dawn and ammonia

Rub a wet bar of Fels Naptha on the stain (it works on formula and cosmetic stains), or apply Dawn dish liquid with 1 tablespoon ammonia. Rub gently and rinse.

Never mix ammonia and bleach. It is dangerous, so read the label twice.

  2. Then try

Dawn, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda

Mix 2 tablespoons 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1 tablespoon blue Dawn and 1 tablespoon baking soda into a paste (a few drops more peroxide if it is too thick, a little more baking soda if it is too thin). Spread it on the stains, let it set about 30 minutes and scrub gently with a toothbrush. Launder as usual.

Peroxide can lighten colors, so this is best for whites. Test a hidden spot first.

  3. Then try

    Overnight soak

Soak the clothing in 1/2 cup powdered Cascade and 1/2 cup Clorox 2 (or use OxiClean) in a big bucket of hot water overnight, then launder as usual.

  4. Then try

    Sunshine

Place the garment outside in the sun. It works as a natural bleach.

  5. Then try

    Enzyme soak

Pretreat or soak the stain in a product with enzymes for at least 30 minutes, or several hours for an aged stain. Then launder.

Check the care label and test a hidden spot first. Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone.
