Wood stain

Wood stain is made to soak in and stay, so act the moment it lands.

  1. Try this first

    Blot and treat at once

Blot up as much as you can without rubbing. Water-based wood stain: flush with cool water from the back, work in liquid detergent and launder. Oil-based stain: use the thinner named on the can, sparingly and with fresh air, then work in detergent and launder.

Dried wood stain may never come out, so keep this for work clothes. Do not use the dryer until the stain is gone.

  2. Then try

    Dispose of the rags safely

Rags with oil-based stain can heat up and catch fire. Lay them flat outdoors to dry, away from anything that burns, or put them in a metal can of water with a lid before throwing them away.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
