Red and blue drinks on carpet (Kool-Aid, Gatorade, Sunny D)

Dyed drinks are the hard ones: blot, dilute and act fast.

  1. Try this first

    Blot, then dilute

Blot up as much as you can, then dab with cool water and blot again. Repeat until the cloth stops picking up color.

Test on a hidden corner first. Blot, never rub, and do not soak: wet padding and backing can mold.

  2. Then try

    Dish soap and white vinegar

Mix 1 teaspoon of clear dish soap and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in 2 cups of warm water. Dab it on, wait 5 minutes, blot, then dab with plain water and blot dry.

Never mix vinegar with bleach or ammonia.

  3. Then try

    Peroxide for what is left

Dab on 3 percent hydrogen peroxide mixed half and half with water, wait 10 minutes, blot and rinse with plain water. Repeat if needed.

Peroxide can lighten colored and wool carpet. Test first. A food-dye stain left for days may never come out fully.
