Laundry mishaps

Musty smells in clothes and towels

Wet laundry forgotten in the machine? Soak it before you wash it again.

  1. Try this first

An oxygen bleach soak, then wash

Soak in hot water (as hot as the care label allows) with an oxygen bleach, following the package. Then wash and dry completely.

Test any stain remover on a hidden seam or hem first, and check the care label.

  2. Then try

Chlorine bleach, if the fabric can take it

Wash with chlorine bleach if the fabric is safe for it and the care label allows.

Fabric badly damaged by mildew may be impossible to clean. Never use chlorine bleach on silk, wool or spandex.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
