Grease on carpet

Blot, do not rub, and keep the cleaner on the cloth, not poured on the carpet.

  1. Try this first

    A laundry pre-treater on a cloth

Blot the spill with paper towels first. Spray a combination laundry cleaner such as Shout or Spray ‘n Wash onto a cleaning cloth (not the carpet), press the cloth on the spot without rubbing and blot toward the middle, turning to a clean part of the cloth. For a stubborn spot, work gently toward the middle with an old toothbrush, then blot with clean cloths and brush the pile lightly.

Do not over-wet the carpet: cleaners can damage the backing and padding. Test a hidden spot first.

  2. Then try

Absorb, then a mild detergent rinse

When the spot looks gone, lay 5 or 6 dry cloths over it, weight them and let them soak up what is left. Then sponge with 1 teaspoon of neutral detergent in 1 cup of lukewarm water, rinse with clear water, blot and let it dry.

If the grease stain stays, ask a professional carpet cleaner.
