Kool-Aid

Kool-Aid is a soft-drink stain, so blot and rinse with cool water.

  1. Try this first

    Cool water, then detergent

Sponge or rinse the stain promptly with cool water. Pretreat by rubbing in liquid laundry detergent, or a paste of detergent powder and water, then launder.

Test any stain remover on a hidden seam or hem first, and check the care label.

  2. Then try

    Vinegar soak

Soak for 15 minutes in 1 quart warm water with 1/2 teaspoon detergent and 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Rinse. If a stain is left, sponge with rubbing alcohol, rinse well and launder.

Rubbing alcohol can take dye out of fabric. Test a hidden spot first.

  3. Then try

    Detergent and an enzyme presoak

For flavored drinks, freely apply liquid detergent, work it in, rinse your hands and repeat. Wash with detergent plus a non-chlorine bleach with enzyme presoak. If it is still there, soak for a day or two, then wash again and air dry.

  4. Then try

Cool water, then a pre-wash remover

Sponge with cool water, or soak the garment about 30 minutes in cool water. Pretreat with a pre-wash stain remover, then launder, adding chlorine bleach if the fabric allows it.

Check the care label and test a hidden spot first. Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone.

Still there? Try the all-purpose ways or pick another stain.
